Squaresoft Standard Decline

*I'm writing to you to let you know how much I enjoy you're games. You're games usually blow out the market and due to that I hold your company at a higher standard. However..... that standard hasn't been reached in a while. The past games have been going downhill.

I played a demo for Chocobo Racing and would be winning in the third lap and then get pelted by three spells in a row. This cheap feature takes any and all fun out of the game.

Final Fantasy VIII had amazing graphics and the best game ending ever!. But... the game severely lacked in plot. Whomever wrote this game should be shot! First, your characters were idiots. Odine seemed like a bad rip-off of Kefka, Fujin and Rajin were annoying. Seifer is no were NEAR as cool as Sephiroth was. In fact, he was an idiot too! Rinoa was too obvious. "You're the cutest guy here! You're going to like me. You're going to like me. You're going to like me." That was stupid! Aeris was MUCH better. Cloud fell through the roof, she asked him if he was OK and then went back to her flowers.

Also people would ask you stuff at the worst possible time. Galbadia is about to invade and Zell wants Squall's ring. You're about to invade Galbadia and the party stops to ask you you're feelings on the subject! If I were Squall I would have told them to shut the hell up. The music was no where near as good as FFVII's. The only good songs were the ones with voice lyrics which was cool, but the best songs sound good without words. Aeris's music was great. Cid's was cool too. And the worst thing about FFVIII was that everybody was in some strange way connected to each other. They just "forgot".

Ehrgiez was an interesting fighting game. Just a few beefs with that. One the FMV's were incredibly terrible. This coming from Squaresoft... the guys that made the best FMV's in the next game... this is bad! The only good ending was Sephiroth's and not just because it came from FFVII. It was the only one that wasn't stupid or boring! I'm sure you know that no one bought the game to play any of those new characters. They bought so Cloud and Sephiroth could settle their differences in the ring. Those other characters shouldn't even be there. Not to mention they were terrible. The only exception is Godhand. You should have a game that pits ALL FF characters against each other. Also, the game was extremely hard in higher difficulties. Anything you do gets interrupted or your blade is caught.

Brave Fencer Musashi was the second worst game to come from you. Was you're target audience ages 8 and below?

Xenogears was the last good game to come out, only two beefs with that. I was enjoying the game as if it were a book, until disc two. It was too rushed and hard to follow. It seemed like you were just pulling crap out of your ass(Yggdrasil IV). Then the ending, I blame this on the US dubbing, the lip sync was drastically off. Working Designs beats you guys there. They worked for a long time to get the sync down. They changed some of the words so it would fit and did a great job. Take a lesson.

Parasite Eve was fine. But that world trade center extra pissed me off. All that work for a stupid ending.

Saga Frontier was sooooo bad it made me cry. Dragon Warrior 1's plot was better!

Final Fantasy Tactics was as good as that platform would allow. Those type of games get repetitious and boring. That's not your fault.

Final Fantasy VII was great except is was too easy(4x cut, quadra magic, Knights of the Round) and the ending was a letdown. But it had the best music. I bought the soundtrack and listen all the time.

One thing that's annoying me about the latest FF games is there's no difference between characters. It just depended on what materia/GF was equipped. Take a lesson from FFIV. That game was good. You only had ONE healer ONE black magic/summoner not to mention that the party changed according to plot. Even at level 99 Rydia only had 5000-6000 HP and Zeromus did 2000 with his Big Bang attack and you only had the one healer.

It helped to give the game a challenge without making it impossible. Also, there was a casting time. Meteo took a while to cast. Actually it took too long. But it balanced things out. That way we can't do 9999 damage all the time. There was a difference between characters. Cecil was an attacker. He had some white magic but nothing that would be helpful in battle. While Rosa had white magic but couldn't do much damage. There's a sense of balance here.

I have bought and played all of these games and they're good, but I'm gonna hold of buying anything until something good comes out. I'm not trying to attack your games.... I just don't understand how games can go downhill as your company has more experience in making RPG's. Maybe you're spending too much time in graphics and not enough in plot and music. I don't play your games for graphics..... I play them as if I'm reading a book. Perhaps throughout the course of time you forgot what RPG's are. I only hope that this is fixed before other gamers get wise to this and switch their styles.
